When Melanie joined mecwacare in October 2022 as a Client Service Coordinator, she could hardly have imagined that within two years she would be leading our Home and Community Services office in Gippsland.
In April 2024 she stepped into the Acting Centre Manager role, and by July she was permanently appointed in the role. Her journey reflects dedication, adaptability and the impact of strong mentorship.
Melanie oversees a close-knit team of six in the Gippsland office. Her work includes liaising with clients and staff, attending home visits with the Assessment Officer, preparing reports, facilitating staff forums and contributing to projects and webinars across the organisation. “I love that no day is ever the same,” she says. “The variety keeps the role engaging and ensures I’m constantly learning and adapting.”
When it comes to her team, Melanie is quick to credit them for her confidence and progress. “I am honestly in awe of my team. They work together so well and are always supportive of each other, even when things get busy or challenging.” She is equally grateful for the mentorship she has received. “I don’t think there’s been a day where I’ve doubted myself or my decisions, and that comes down to the trust and support they’ve shown me.”
What keeps her motivated is the sense that the work matters. “I really enjoy being part of an organisation that is changing and improving the way we work and support clients and staff. It feels good to be part of that and to know the work we do makes a difference.”
Outside of work, Melanie bakes sourdough and spends time with her golden retriever Luna and cats Seattle and Nelson. Born in Germany with Croatian heritage and fluent in four languages, she recently became an Australian citizen on Australia Day 2026, a milestone she is deeply proud of.
Melanie’s story is a reminder that a career at mecwacare is about far more than a job title. It is about growing, being supported along the way and making a real difference in the lives of others.
