For more than 20 years, the centre supported people with disability to build skills, confidence and connection within the community. We thank all participants, families and staff who have been part of Fisher Street over this time.

mecwacare Fisher Street Centre

Our centre-based disability programs primarily operate from the Fisher Street Centre in Malvern East. We offer more than 30 lifestyle and skills-based programs, both in our centre and in the community, that are refreshed regularly.

Programs are designed to empower participants with an array of outcomes, including but not limited to:

Life skills development such as cooking, grocery shopping and money handling
Social skills, safety awareness and community access
Lifestyle and promoting health and wellbeing
Personal development and communication skills

Group transport is available.

Access is available to clients from Melbourne’s southern and eastern metropolitan regions.

FAQs

How to get there

mecwacare operates buses to assist with transportation to and from home (places are limited), depending on location. We are located centrally to Caulfield and Carnegie train stations. There is also convenient access to trams and buses on Waverley Road.

Eligibility

Participants must be over 18 years of age, with a disability. Participants must also be registered with Centrelink, be receiving the Disability Support Pension, and be registered with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Can I attend full time or part time?

Full and half-day programs are available. Half-day programs run from 9:00am-1:00pm and 12:00pm-3:00pm. Full-day programs run from 9:00am-3:00pm.

What happens at lunch time?

Participants bring lunch every day, unless involved in the cooking group where lunch will be provided.
Each Friday, there is a catering group and participants can order lunch and a drink.
If participants have approval from a legal guardian, they may leave to buy their own lunch or go for a walk at lunch time.
Staff are always available to support the preparation of lunch, help with personal care and to support lunch activities, such as games and puzzles, etc.
