“Many have lived through extraordinary experiences and challenges, yet they continue to show gratitude, humour and kindness.”
For Melanie, Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinator at mecwacare Annie’s Court in Shoreham, moments like these are what make her work both grounding and inspiring.
After many years in administrative roles across aged care and community settings, Melanie noticed something. The part of her day she looked forward to most had nothing to do with what was on her desk.
“I realised the most meaningful part of my day was always the conversations and connections with residents,” she says. “Listening to their life stories and helping them to live their very best life was much more enjoyable to me.”
That realisation prompted a deliberate change. She completed her Certificate in Ageing Support and Lifestyle and eventually joined Annie’s Court — where her role now centres on creating opportunities for residents to engage in activities that reflect their own interests and preferences, whether through group programs, one-on-one time, or reconnecting with hobbies they love.
“Every day is different, and each resident brings their own story and perspective, which makes the role both inspiring and meaningful,” she says.
At Annie’s Court, Melanie describes a warm and inclusive community where residents are known, respected and supported, and where staff work together to create experiences that genuinely matter.
