The Ballan Hydrotherapy Pool closure

After carefully exploring a range of options, we’ve made the difficult decision to permanently close the Ballan Hydrotherapy Pool.

We’ve answered some questions you may have below. We’ll keep you updated as plans progress and share more information as it becomes available.

Questions and Answers

When will the pool close?

Thursday 24 December 2026 will be the final day of operation for the Ballan Hydrotherapy Pool. The pool will remain open and running as usual until then.

Why is the hydrotherapy pool closing?

Detailed assessments found significant structural issues with the hydrotherapy pool, which means it can’t safely operate over the longer term.

We explored options to repair or replace the pool, but the work needed would be substantial to meet current safety and structural standards. After carefully considering all the options, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the pool permanently.

What will happen to the pool area?

The pool area will be redeveloped into an expanded public gym, providing access to health and fitness facilities for Ballan and the surrounding communities.

What will happen to the current gym and will it remain open while the pool area is redeveloped?

At this stage, we’re planning to keep the current gym and rehabilitation areas open while the pool area is redeveloped. We’ll keep members and the community updated as plans progress and let you know about any changes that may affect access.

Will there be community consultation about the new gym?

We’ll share updates about the redevelopment plans and opportunities for community feedback as plans progress.

What will happen to my gym membership?

If you have a gym membership, you can continue to use the existing areas as normal.

Our aim is to minimise disruption wherever possible. We’ll keep you updated about any changes that may affect access to the current gym area.

I only use the pool. Will I get a refund?

If you have a pool-only membership that extends beyond 24 December, you may be eligible for a refund for the unused part of your membership. Our team will be in touch before the pool closes to talk through options and help make the process as easy as possible.

What will happen to hydrotherapy sessions provided by physiotherapists?

Our physiotherapists are currently looking at options for clients who attend hydrotherapy sessions.

Depending on your individual needs, alternatives may include gym-based rehabilitation, land-based exercise, a home exercise program or referral to another hydrotherapy facility.

Please speak with your physiotherapist about your treatment plan and options that may be right for you. We’ll collaborate with you to find the best alternative for your needs.

How can I provide feedback or raise a concern?

We welcome feedback from our gym and pool members and the wider Ballan community. If you have questions, concerns or feedback about the pool closure, please email our project manager Simon.Francis@mecwacare.org.au
