mecwacare pilots real-time pressure injury prevention technology
Leading not-for-profit aged care provider mecwacare has commenced a pilot of Lenexa Medical’s LenexaCARE® technology at its Trescowthick Centre residential aged care home in Prahran.
Pressure injuries remain a significant and often preventable issue across health and aged care settings, particularly for people with reduced mobility. They can cause pain, impact quality of life and increase clinical complexity, making early identification and intervention a key focus for care providers.
The pilot reflects mecwacare’s ongoing exploration of technologies that may support more proactive, person-centred care delivery and improved resident outcomes. Both mecwacare and Lenexa Medical share a focus on strengthening care quality through improved visibility and earlier clinical intervention.
LenexaCARE® uses integrated fabric-based sensor technology that converts a standard mattress into a non-intrusive monitoring system, providing continuous real-time pressure insights. A remote dashboard enables carers and clinicians to identify high-risk positioning earlier and respond with timely interventions to support resident comfort, safety and dignity.
Kendall Killbride, General Manager IT Transformation at mecwacare, said the pilot aligns with mecwacare’s focus on using digital tools to support more informed and responsive care.
“We’re continuing to explore how data and digital solutions can support more proactive, person-centred care. Better visibility helps our teams respond earlier and make more informed decisions for residents,” Mr Killbride said.
Lenexa Medical CEO Ajit Ravindran said the pilot represents an important opportunity to support proactive care approaches in aged care environments.
“We are proud to support mecwacare’s commitment to innovation and resident wellbeing. This pilot reflects the growing role of real-time data in enabling earlier intervention and improved care outcomes,” Mr Ravindran said.
The pilot builds on LenexaCARE® deployments across health and aged care settings in Australia and Asia, where the technology has supported improved visibility, workflow insights and proactive care approaches.
mecwacare will evaluate the outcomes of the pilot to inform future consideration of the technology across its residential aged care homes.
