ANZAC Day at our aged care homes

On ANZAC Day, we honour those who served and remember the courage, sacrifice and comradeship that live on.

Across mecwacare’s aged care homes, remembrance services have been held throughout the week, bringing together staff, residents and loved ones to commemorate both those who have served and those who continue to serve.

At Flora Hill, the ceremony was led by Mr. Glenn “Dusty” Miller, a Navy veteran with a distinguished service record. Two residents, Val and Bernice, also played an important role in the service, contributing their support to make the event even more personal. A particularly touching moment was when Margaret Brown brought her late husband’s Vietnam War medals to the service, commemorating his service from 1962 to 1973. It was a deeply emotional and proud moment for all those in attendance.

In Ballan, our aged care residents and team took part in a commemorative march and service to honour ANZAC Day. The rain fell steadily throughout the morning, matching the solemn and reflective mood of the occasion.

At Susan Barton House, residents participated in a service on Thursday, followed by a dawn service on Friday. Two volunteers assisted in laying a wreath in honour of the residents, staff and volunteers who continue to contribute to the spirit of remembrance.

Similarly, at Elstoft House and Trescowthick Centre, residents and staff came together in song, reflection and the laying of wreaths, united in remembering the sacrifices made.

Lest we forget.
