48 Years of Full Tummies

Summary: The growth and development of the mecwacare Food Services Program is a unique example of caring within a community. Since November 1959 members of the Stonnington community have, in a voluntary capacity, responded to the needs of their neighbours. For over 45 years, mecwacare Food Services volunteers and staff have taken action by generously contributing with their gift of time, delivering meals with great care to people in the community.

On June 29th, a celebration luncheon was held for Food Service staff and volunteers at the Malvern Valley Golf Course. Staff and volunteers joined together to farewell the mecwacare Food Services program. Janine Stevenson, master of ceremonies welcomed volunteers and staff to the appreciation event.

Chief Executive, Michele Lewis thanked the staff and volunteers for their many years of service to the clients of mecwacare. Ms Lewis gave an overview of the service and the valuable contribution volunteers and staff provided to the local community. Robert Gale, Annette Hurwitz, Leah Andrew and Peg Perry spoke about their volunteer memories over the years of food service delivery.

On behalf of the clients to whom all our volunteers provided unswerving service, the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive, staff and volunteer team of mecwacare extend their deepest gratitude and thanks – you have made mecwacare what it is today.
