As part of our ongoing recognition of our volunteers we will be getting to know the people who ‘change our world’ when each month one of our volunteers will share their volunteering story with us. We are pleased to introduce:
Meet Katrina...
Katrina is 41 and has been a MECWA volunteer for three months with the mecwacare Disability Services program. Katrina’s volunteer role involves the Monday Music Program at Fisher Street Community Centre, East Malvern where clients from the program socalise over afternoon tea, some music and dancing.
Katrina describes the most satisfying part of her role, is that seeing people that need some assistance smile - this makes her feel good.
Meet William...
54 year old William began volunteering at mecwacare three and a half years ago.
William is acting Manager of the Prahran Opportunity Shop on Saturdays. He also works on Wednesdays as well as filling in at other times when needed. Meeting some amazing people from all walks of life and making great friends has been one of the benefits of volunteering for William.
Meet Brad...
Brad has been a volunteer with mecwacare for approximately four years and he loves it. Brad is a regular at mecwacare’s Pakenham Day Centre, where he assists with the planned activity groups for adults with disabilities.
“I find it very fulfilling. It’s good to help people. I like to help and I enjoy my days there. It keeps me busy,” says Brad, who is an Interfet (International Force East Timor) PPI (Partial Physical Invalidity) veteran. He lives in Lang Lang, South Gippsland, with his wife Sharlene and their two sons Reece and William.
The Friday activities can be anything from sausage sizzles to arts and crafts sessions to outings.
As well as his contribution to mecwacare, Brad does other voluntary work with the RSL and the veteran community. He likes to mix with people of all ages and volunteering gives him that opportunity. |
