mecwacare's Community Housing fosters a caring community and promotes the dignity and privacy of each resident.
The Community Housing is set in the beautiful surroundings of Gardiner’s Creek in Glen Iris.
The property contains 31 residential dwellings, with 21 one bedroom units and 10 two bedroom units. The units are designed to promote comfort and independence for people who are over 60 years of age and meet the Ministry of Housing eligibility criteria.
Each unit has its own living and dining room, separate kitchen, bathroom/laundry and front and rear landscaping. The units are all carpeted and include a stove and heater.
mecwacare is responsible for the maintenance of the communal areas and units. Other responsibilities include administration of waiting lists, tenancy agreements, accounts and building insurance. mecwacare also covers the payment of council charges.
Residents enter into a Tenancy Agreement. Rent is in accordance with the Ministry of Housing criteria. Payment for the telephone, gas, electricity and water are the responsibility of each resident.
